We love children at St. John’s! In fact, St. John’s is a “Cherish Our Children” congregation. Because we love kids we offer a variety of educational and service opportunities for all ages:
- Our nursery is a wonderful, safe, and caring place for younger children who are more comfortable in a room full of toys than in the worship service. The nursery is available each Sunday morning during both worship services. It is staffed by experienced caregivers providing quality child care.
- For children in worship, Quiet Bags are available on a stand just inside the Sanctuary doors. These bags contain quiet, busy activities that children can enjoy during services.
- Sunday School at St. John’s is called Faith Creek Church School!
- Here at St. John’s, we seek for our Faith Creek ministry to be engaging and fun, while guiding and nurturing faith. In age appropriate classes, children experience Scripture–based lessons that help them relate the Bible to their lives.
- There are weekly classes for all children, 3 years old – 4th grade during Sunday worship at 9:00am. Classes are in session from September – May. Children are welcome to join us at any time during the year!
- We utilize the “Whirl” curriculum for our weekly lessons. It provides various activities each week that make kids examine the stories in different ways. Activities can range from listening, to drawing, to acting out specific scenes. The learning doesn’t end when class is over. The children’s weekly leaflet from class encourages the entire family to engage faith outside of church.
- Breakfast Club (Faith Formation class for 5th and 6th graders) Breakfast Club for 5th and 6th graders will be on Sundays from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. the 2nd, 4th and occasional 5th Sunday of the month. (Middle school youth are encouraged to worship with their families on the 1st and 3rd Sundays.) Breakfast Club is that that bridge between Faith Creek for younger kids and Confirmation. Using the Bible, Connect curriculum, games and active learning activities, each week’s meeting will be a new adventure! (And of course there will be some breakfast treats!)
- Youth and Children’s Choir – The goal of St. John’s Children’s Choir is to offer an opportunity for faith enrichment through music and worship leadership. Musical skills are developed and strengthened by singing a variety of songs and playing a variety of instruments. The choir students also develop worship leadership skills by being trained and given opportunities to be readers, write prayers, create artwork and lead songs for worship services. St. John’s Youth Choir for students in grades 4-8 meets on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30. The Cherub Choirs (grades K-3) meets on Sundays from 10:00 – 10:20. Contact Sarah Garner for more information.
- Christmas Program – All children 3 years old through 6th grade are invited to participate in a special program of music and word retelling the wonderful Christmas story.
- Vacation Bible School – Each summer, we have a Vacation Bible School for children 3 years old – rising 5th graders.
- Parents Night Out -Safe and fun childcare is provided at church for parents who need an evening to themselves. We ask that you do sign up for these events as it helps us to plan for adequate staffing for the night. Check the church calendar for the next PNO!
