St. John’s is a congregation where people come together in worship, fellowship, and service to each other, the local community, and the world.
Our ministries are organized into teams with each team being led by a staff member, a member of the church council, and those members of the congregation that wish to serve in each area. You may help in any team you would like, for as long as you are able to serve.
Some of the ways that people offer their gifts for service include:
- serving as Sunday school teachers or confirmation mentors
- helping worship come alive by singing in the choirs, playing hand bells, reading lesson, serving communion, playing in the contemporary worship band, or serving as greeters, readers or ushers
- knitting prayer shawls for our prayer chain ministry
- offering your energies to partner with community organizations such as WeCan, Westonka Food Shelf, the Hopkins Battered Women’s Center, Our Savior’s Shelter in Phillips neighborhood (an ELCA homeless shelter)
- adult missions trips both local and international (yearly Guatemala Medical Mission trip in January), and a yearly summer service week within Minnesota
- providing care and food through our Funeral Ministry as we come alongside grieving families in their time of need.
- annual Sunday-2-Serve in July with local congregations
caring for our property and grounds by helping with painting, building repair, lawn mowing, or tending to one of our gardens
- being drawn by compassion to rally people for an outing to Feed My Starving Children, or to advance the cause of a global mission initiative, such as Malaria Prevention
- …and so many more…
